On August 16 the sixth vessel out of 10 multipurpose bulk
carriers under RSD-44 project for Volga Shipping Company was launched at
Okskaya shipyard (Navashino, Nizhegorodskaya region). Vessel was called
“Captain Kadomtsev”. Ten river self-propelled vessels of RSD-44 project
are being constructed at Russian shipyards for the first time within
last 25 years. The first four motor vessels of this series are already
working in the inner waterways, one vessel is now is being tested.
Bulk carriers RSD-44 are suitable for the transportation of bulk,
general cargoes and containers and will replace the vessels of the
previous series “Volga-Don”. New vessels have precedence over the
previous vessels in performance, environmental friendliness, economical
efficiency and vessel convenience. Capacity of the vessels under RSD44
project amounts to 5.5 thousand tons, which is by 500 tons more then the
capacity of Volgo-Don bulk carriers. Overall height of new vessels is
twice less and amounts only to 8 meters. This will allow the vessels to
pass under the bridges of Russian cities without raising them, which
will reduce the time of cargo delivery. The vessels will be maximally
automated and equipped by modern steering columns, which will increase
maneuverability and steering quality.
All dry bulk vessels of this series have been called after captains
of Volga Shipping Company, who perished in Stalingrad battle.
