EVERGREEN Line has named the eighth L-type 8,508-TEUer, the Ever Lyric, at a ceremony held at CSBC's Kaohsiung shipyard officiated by the shipping group's vice chairman Raymond Lin.
Owned by Evergreen Marine Corp, the new will join the shipping line's Far East-Red Sea Service (FRS), replacing an older vessel, a company statement said.
The group commenced its current fleet renewal programme in 2010, which in total includes 30 L-type vessels. With the delivery of Ever Lyric, the company adds the 28th such ship to its operating fleet.
The remaining two newbuildings are being built by CSBC and will be delivered by the third quarter. The first batch of 20 L-type ships were built by Samsung Heavy Industries.
Said Mr Lin: "We have continued to monitor the operational data of our L-type vessels and have utilised this in joint efforts with CSBC to produce the brand new energy-saving bow design.
"Comparisons of such operational performance data reveal that this eco-friendly bow design enables a L-type vessel to reduce fuel consumption by between 12 and 21 per cent within normal sailing speeds," he said.
