On the dry-bulk front, the BDI has broken this Wednesday the “psychological” 1000 mark & has reached at 1067 today.

Clients of Cyprus Maritime of Greece have purchased en-bloc from the Japanese market cape KOHFUKUSAN (172K BLT 1999 NKK/JAPAN) for $15 mill and panamax ORANGE TRIDENT (78K BLT 2007 SANOYAS/JAPAN) for $23 mill. Same age SHINING BLISS (77K BLT 2007 NAMURA/JAPAN) achieved the similar price of $22.5 mill. Brazilian built ROYAL OCEAN (70K BLT 1995 ISHIBRAS LDT 10691) has finally found buyers from China who paid $8.5 mill while other Chinese have committed PETKA (75K BLT 1994 B+W/DENMARK) for $9.1-9.7 mill including 1 year t/c back to Sellers Atlanska Plovidba of Croatia at a rate of $10,000 per day.

Greek buyers have acquired a prompt 58k supramax resale ex Dayang Shipyard in China for $26.8 mill while compatriots’ clients of Carras Hellas have bought a prompt 61k resale ex Imabari shipyard in Japan for $28.3 mill.

Higher price indicates the premium that buyers are willing to pay for Japanese tonnage.

Japanese controlled supramax HIRYU (53K BLT 2003 OSHIMA/JAPAN) is committed to Greeks for $17.7 mill while two years older FURNESS AUSTRALIA (52K BLT 2001 TSUNEISHI/JAPAN) went for $15 mill to undisclosed buyers.

One more Japanese controlled supramax changed hands; AEGEAN FALCON (50K BLT 2000 MITSUI/JAPAN) was sold to clients of PCL of Singapore for $14.3-14.5 mill.

Same age handymax TARAPACA (46K BLT 2000 KANASASHI/JAPAN) was snapped by clients of Trade Fortune of Greece for $13 mill.

Eighties vintage handysize SEA HOPE (28K BLT 1989/JAPAN CR 4X30T) went to Chinese buyers for the soft level of $4 mill, indicating her poor condition.

In the Tanker segment, we had a very quiet week; small unit AGISTRI (9K BLT 1992/JAPAN) was sold to undisclosed buyers at level in excess of $2 mill, while in a judicial sale in Mumbai, India, modern unit KORMEL (7K BLT 2010/TURKEY) achieved $10.25 mill by European buyers. Clients of Borealis Maritime of U.K. have purchased en bloc sisters LYCIAN & HADA (5.5K BLT 2007/08 CELIKTEKNE/TURKEY) for $8 mill each.

In the container/mpp/tween segment, we had another slow week; US buyers have bought 10 year old geared feeder WEHR NIENSTEDTEN (1730 TEUS 23K BLT 2002/POLAND CR 3X40T) for $12 mill while gearless HR MAGICIAN (917 TEUS 10K BLT 2005/UKRAINE) was acquired by clients of Vega Reederei of Germany for $11 mill with 95% financing attached.
