19th February was the first day of the Lunar New Year, the year of the Goat or Sheep (as the Chinese word yáng refers to both goat and sheep) in the Chinese Zodiac.
According to Chinese astrology, the goat is a symbol of fortune, prosperity, peace, balance, harmony and calmness. 2015 is also an “8” year (2+0+1+5 = Chinese lucky number "8"), which means there’s a lot of wealth to be made this year. Many astrologists conclude that the global crisis which has been unfolding and spreading chaos for the past 8 years is finally wrapping up; this year the economics will rapidly stabilize and the markets will be recovering from the losses suffered in the previous years.
More specifically, the first half of 2015, markets are expected to stabilize while in the second half (especially the summer months), positive events will start happening and growth is anticipated. As per the Chinese Five Element theory, this year’s element is “wood”.
Other Feng Shui experts believe that as water and wood are negative elements, it looks like it will be a "dry" year for the "water" industries such as shipping. Regardless of what's in store for this Chinese zodiac year, we all hope that it will be better than 2014 (year of the Wooden Horse). Last but not least, we would like to extend our best wishes to our Far-Eastern readers for a prosperous & successful Year of the Wooden Goat - Gong Xi Fa Cai! 羊
