On the dry-bulk front, we had a very active week, noticing three capes changing hands; Clients of Winning Shipping of China have purchased modern REGENA N (180K BLT 2006 IMABARI/JAPAN) for $33 mill & vintage CAPE AMERICA (149K BLT 1991 KAOHSIUNG/TAIWAN LDT 18448) for $8.5 mill, while clients of Chartworld of Greece bought IRON YANDI (169K BLT 1996 DAEWOO/S. KOREA) for $13.6 mill basis special survey & dry-dock passed January 2012.

On the dry-bulk front, the BDI has broken this Wednesday the âpsychologicalâ 1000 mark & has reached at 1067 today. Clients of Cyprus Maritime of Greece have purchased en-bloc from the Japanese market cape KOHFUKUSAN (172K BLT 1999 NKK/JAPAN) for $15 mill and panamax ORANGE TRIDENT (78K BLT 2007 SANOYAS/JAPAN) for $23 mill

Clients of Nachipa of Chile have paid the firm price of $15 mill (while others suggest that price was actually lower, at a level in excess of $14 mill) for handy LIVADIA (32K BLT 2003/JAPAN CR 4X30T) while open-hatch unit OCEAN BELLE (32K BLT 1999 SAIKI/JAPAN CR 4X30T) was purchased by Turkish buyers for $10 mill.

London-based Zodiac went on a shopping spree, buying prompt cape resale C PHOENIX (176K BLT 12/2011 RONGSHENG CHINA) for $38.5 mill & 2 modern Japanese controlled panamax sisters SANKO ODYSSEY & SANKO ORION (75K BLT 2010/2011 OSHIMA/JAPAN) for $26.7 mill & $27.2 mill respectively.

With BDI slowly improving, Buyers appetite has increased with many sales to report on the dry-bulk front. Japanese owners are proving for one more week that they remain the most realistic sellers in the market, Chinese buyers seem to have finally woken up; chasing all dry-tonnage at scrap-related prices while Greek buyers are active as always in all sectors.

Japanese owned Tess 76 panamax MINERAL STAR (76K BLT 2005/TSUNEISHI/JAPAN) is reported committed or under close negotiations to Greek buyers at levels $21.5-21.6 mill, while other sources suggest that her Owners were not happy with offers received.

On the dry-bulk front, the market remains depressed as the BDI index is fluctuating at low levels (715-734) this week. Modern post panamax INCE ISTANBUL (106K BLT 2011 STX DALIAN/CHINA) is reported sold to undisclosed interests for $32 mill.
