CONTAINER volume at the Port of Nagoya in central Japan fell 6.8 per cent in January year on year to 202,856 TEU, according to the Nagoya Port Authority.
Within this total 191,041 TEU came from foreign trade, down 7.3 per cent year on year, and the remaining 11,815 TEU came from domestic trade, up 1.9 per cent, reports IHS Maritime 360.
In January exports decreased by 1.2 per cent compared to the same month a year earlier to 97,992 TEU, while import volume fell 13 per cent to 93,049 TEU.
Total cargo volume fell 6.3 per cent in January from a year earlier to 16.08 million tonnes, with foreign trade down 6.6 per cent to 10.718 million tonnes and domestic trade off 5.8 per cent to 5.37 million tonnes.
In January the port exported 4.14 million tonnes of cargo, unchanged from a year earlier, and imported 6.57 million tonnes of cargo, down 10.3 per cent year on year.
