ABU DHABI Ports is forecasting growth across all general cargo activities this year will hit 17 per cent, following a record year for cargo in 2014.
The Khalifa Port Container Terminal, run by Abu Dhabi Terminals, handled a record 1,137,679 TEU last year, an increase of 26 per cent year on year, while the bulk and general cargo volumes were up 37 per cent.
"As many development projects in Abu Dhabi are underway, we look ahead to a promising 2015 healthy growth figures that not only confirm the emirate's booming economy, but Abu Dhabi Ports' supporting role as an important enabler for development and trade," said CEO Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi.
"We will continue to develop our cutting edge infrastructure and service offerings across all of our ports, to establish Abu Dhabi as a first-class international maritime hub," he said.
Abu Dhabi Ports supports trade development in Abu Dhabi, furthering import and export activities, attracting a growing number of customers who make use of the numerous business advantages offered by the Emirate's ports.
These range from outstanding market access and excellent intermodal transportation networks to world-class infrastructure and services, reported the Khaleej Times.
