UNITED Arab Emirates-based, privately owned port operator and logistics company, Gulftainer handled 6.4 million TEU across its global terminal portfolio in 2014, up eight per cent year on year.
The year was defined by international expansion and investments in new infrastructure to enhance operational efficiency.
Gulftainer commercial director Iain Rawlinson attributed the growth in volume to the strong productivity levels that the group's terminals were able to achieve on a consistent basis.
"Our extensive network and technological expertise are the strengths that enabled us to expand to new locations. We continuously invest in enhancing our infrastructure, thus boosting reliability, operational efficiency and productivity," said Mr Rawlinson, reported Dubai's Khaleej Times.
The group's Saudi terminals recorded impressive growth with Northern Container Terminal, accounting for 1.9 million TEU, while Jubail Container Terminal achieved year-on-year growth of 22 per cent to handle 396,000 TEU.
The Umm Qasr terminal saw growth of 46 per cent in 2014, while volume was up seven per cent at the Recife terminal in Brazil.
Its UAE terminals recorded a total volume of 3.8 million TEU with all-round growth in business. The company marked another significant milestone, with Sharjah Container Terminal, surpassing 400,000 TEU in annual throughput for the first time.
