RUSSIA's largest port operator, Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port Group, has announced that consolidated container throughput in January and February amounted to 718,000 TEU or 6,951,000 tonnes.
Consolidated cargo turnover during the reporting period increased eight per cent year on year reaching 23.2 million tonnes.
General cargo was up 16.2 per cent compared to the first two months of 2014 at 22,468,000 tonnes. Bulk cargo grew 4.7 per cent year on year to 1,605,200 tonnes, reported St Petersburg PortNews.
Commenting on the operating results CEO of PJSC NCSP Sultan Batov said: "Over 10 days of storms and subsequent restrictions on rail dispatches affected most of cargoes at Novorossiysk in February. Import of industrial goods is decreasing which affects container traffic."
General cargo volumes include ferrous metals and pig iron, which increased by 2,352,000 tonnes or 14.2 per cent versus January-February 2014. Non-ferrous metals grew 22 per cent and timber 22.5 per cent year on year.
NCSP Group consolidates the following companies: PJSC Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port, LLC Primorsk Trade Port, PJSC Novorossiysk Grain Terminal, OJSC Novorossiysk Ship Repair Yard, OJSC NCSP Fleet, OJSC NLE, OJSC IPP, CJSC Baltic Stevedore Company, and CJSC SFP.
