CMA CGM Group, the world's third largest shipping company, has announced the inauguration of its new logistics platform, the CMA CGM Cameroon Container Terminal (3CTC) in Douala to reinforce its presence in the West-Central Africa.
At the same time, the company has also created an entity dedicated to inland transportation solutions development, named CMA CGM Inland Services (CCIS).
The 3CTC platform has been operational since January 7 with a concession of 25 years. It is located in a strategic area between Douala and the port, where it occupies two hectares, a company statement said.
With this new platform, France's leading shipping group is offering its clients a complete range of logistics solutions, including full and/or empty containers storage in a 1,200-square metre secured area, and land transportation for merchandise in Cameroon, Chad and Central Africa.
The group's vessels call at Douala twice a week, supporting Cameroon's industry with import and export solutions worldwide. The CMA CGM Group said it has the "ambition to become a big player in Cameroon's development, today more than ever."
The 3CTC platform illustrates CMA CGM's land development strategy. With CCIS, a single and unique entity created to accompany this strategy, the group opened a platform in Dakar, Senegal, last year, and has developed 14 terrestrial hubs, creating transport corridors between land locked and coastal countries.
Said vice chairman Rodolphe Saade: "This inauguration shows our determination to reinforce our presence in Africa and to develop both our inland and logistics activities there. It also confirms our desire to become a major player in Cameroon's economic growth."
The CMA CGM Group has since 2001 been in sub-Saharan Africa, where it has 1,300 employees in 72 offices.
Present in 43 countries, the group counts 27 direct maritime services joining the continent to the rest of the world. Its development strategy relies on maritime services that are among the best in the market, and new land transportation solutions and port projects.
