Long Beach and Seattle-Tacoma post plunging January box volumes
CONTAINER volumes at the Port of Long Beach dropped 18.8 per cent year on year in January to 429,490 TEU as Seattle-Tacoma throughput fell 13 per cent to 226,906 TEU with all ports blaming labour-induced congestion.
Long Beach January imports numbered 213,667 TEU, a 23.5 per cent year-on-year decline while exports slid 19.6 per cent to 98,462 TEU. Empties came in at 117,361 TEU, down 7.6 per cent.
Seattle-Tacoma January imports fell 21 per cent to 89,982 TEU while exports dipped seven per cent to 81,213 TEU. Domestic volumes to Alaska and Hawaii fell seven per cent to 55,711 TEU.
