French farmers block Marseilles port, throw potatoes on roads
PROTESTING farmers around the Port of Marseille’s Fos container terminal and Distriport logistics zone have been disrupting truck traffic to and from the port, said the port authority.
Farm vehicles began occupying two traffic circles near the entrance to the terminal, tipping potatoes, hay and rice on to the road, reports Lloyd's Loading List.
A spokesman for La Federation nationale des syndicats d'exploitants agricoles (FDSEA) farmers union said the action was in protest to the economic conditions in the sector.
"If we have to stay here for several days, we are willing to do it," he said.
