Danish Ministry of Justice for the first time sanctioned private armed guards on board of Danish vessel – tanker Torm Kansas

Danish Ministry of Justice for the first time sanctioned private armed guards on board of Danish vessel – tanker Torm Kansas, already attacked by pirates in November last year.

For unclear reason Danish military can’t provide guard, so owner asked Ministry for permission to hire private guards, and got one. Danish Shipowners Association, as well as biggest shipowner of Denamrk and the world, Maersk, stick to maritime organizations policy, which doesn’t approve, though not reject, armed guards on board of merchant vessels.

Still, US subsidiary of Maersk after some very unpleasant experiences, doesn’t care for what maritime organizations approve and what they don’t like, and made armed guards a practice. No harm from maritime organizations, and no harm from pirates, either.
