Pirates attack ship 50 kilometres west of Singapore, steal engine parts
AN unnamed chemical tanker was boarded by pirates while it was three nautical miles east of Karimun Kecil, Indonesia, 50 kilometres west of Singapore, reported to the Kuala Lumpur-based International Maritime Bureau.
According to the report, relayed by London's Tanker Operator, said five robbers armed with long knives came alongside in a boat and boarded the chemical tanker while she was underway.
The pirates went to the engine room, where they took three engineering officers and the duty fitter hostage. They were tied up, while the robbers stole engine spares, the report added.
Shortly after, the pirates made their escape in their boat. No injuries were reported.
