Shipping at risk of terrorist attack off Yemen, warns British Government
THE British Government has issued its highest security alert for shipping operating off the coast of Yemen, fearing an "imminent" terrorist attack from an al-Qaeda offshoot in the region.
Maritime security company Gulf of Aden Group Transits (GoAGT) also issued today a warning to all international vessels to be aware of suspicious traffic.
The UK Department for Transport also raised the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) threat for British shipping to level 3, which is judged "exceptional", indicating credible information suggests that a security threat is "probable".
Security experts said that the move was unprecedented since the ISPS code was introduced in 2004.
