TURKEY-FILM FESTIVAL-48th International Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival to begin in October

ISTANBUL (A.A) - The 48th International Antalya GoldenOrange Festival, Turkey's biggest film festival, will be held from October 8 to14.The theme of this year's festival is"Woman".Mustafa Akaydin, mayor of the southern province of Antalya and president ofthe Antalya Culture&Art Foundation (AKSAV), said at a press conference inIstanbul that prominent actress Mujda Ar would be the chairperson of the jurythis year."This year's jury will be formed all by women,"he said.He said that leading Turkish actors Tuncel Kurtiz, Perran Kutman, HalitAkcatepe, Engin Caglar and director Mehmet Dinler would be presented with"Lifetime Achievement Award"."This year's festival will also feature'Summit of Women'. TURKEY-EGYPT-Egyptian National Day celebrated in Ankara

ANKARA (A.A) - A reception has taken place in Ankara to markEgypt's National Day.Hosted by Egyptian Ambassador in Ankara Abderahman Salaheldin, the receptionbrought together Turkish Health Minister Recep Akdag, Omer Celik of the rulingJustice&Development (AK) Party and a number of diplomats including U.S.Ambassador Francis Ricciardone and Israeli Ambassador Gaby Levi.Salaheldin told reporters at the reception that it was the first celebrationfollowing the uprising in his country earlier this year."We are going through a democratic transition process. We are going to holdparliamentary and presidential elections. This is the most important period inEgypt's history,"he said.The Egyptian diplomat said he expected that a responsible coalitiongovernment would appear in the country following the elections.He said that number of Turkish industrialists investing in his country wouldincrease following the formation of new government.Salaheldin added that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan would travel toEgypt in the coming weeks.(UK)

TURKEY-CONCERT-Ancient city of Sagalassos hosts jazz concert

AGLASUN (A.A) - The ancient city of Sagalassos in thesouthern Turkey has hosted New York Gypsy All Stars.The band charmed jazz-lovers at the concert in the ancient city in Aglasuntown of the province of Burdur.The band is in Turkey to attend the International Antalya Jazz Festival.Known as the mysterious city of emperors, Sagalossos hosted a concert forthe first time in its history.In Roman imperial times, Sagalassos was known as the'first city ofPisidia'. The ancient ruins of Sagalassos take place on Mount Akdag at analtitude of 1450-1700 metres. Large-scale excavations started in the city in 1990under the direction of Marc Waelkens of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Anumber of buildings, monuments and other archaeological remains have beenexposed, documenting the monumental aspect of the Hellenistic, Roman and earlyByzantine history of the town.(UK)

European Youth Olympic Festival, known by its initials EYOF, is a biennial
multi-sport event for young athletes from all over Europe. The event is organized
in two editions, one in summer and the other in winter. The summer edition of
EYOF was first organized in Brussels in 1991. After the Belgian capital, Dutch
city of Valkenswaard, British city of Bath, Portuguese capital of Lisbon, Danish
city of Esbjerg, Spanish city of Murcia, French capital of Paris, Italian city of
Lignano Sabbiadoro, Serbian capital of Belgrade and Finnish city of Tampera
hosted the event respectively.
After its 11th host Trabzon, the sports event will be held in the Dutch city
of Utrecht in 2013 and Georgian capital of Tbilisi in 2015.

One dollar traded at 1.7150 lira and Euro at 2.4790 lira inIstanbul free market.Turkish stock market was up 0.56 percent on Tuesday. The National-100, mainindex of the Istanbul Stock Exchange (ISE), rose 340.99 points during the wholesession. The index closed at 61,388.64 points.The Interbank Turkish Lira Reference Interest Rate (TRLIBOR) -- overnightinterest rate -- rose to 7.3491 on Tuesday. It was 7.3483 on Monday.The Istanbul Gold Exchange (IAB) index was down on Tuesday as gold traded at88,890 Turkish liras a kilo and at 1,612.00 USD an ounce. ISTANBUL (A.A) - Governor of Iraqi capital Baghdad, SalahAbdul-Razzaq, said Tuesday that they could cooperate with Turkish companies inall fields.Speaking at the inauguration of the"Turkish-Iraqi Trade Summit"inIstanbul, Abdul-Razzaq said that Iraq allocated 30 billion USD for new projectsin 2011 and this figure would go higher next year.Iraq is among the 10 countries in the world with most needs for publicworks. As such, there is a need for investments worth billions of USD in Iraq.Iraq presents highly important opportunities for investors, Abdul-Razzaq said.We can cooperate with Turkish companies in Baghdad in many diverse fields.Turkish companies make quality production at prices lower than those of Europe.We regard Turkish companies closer to us than others. We want to see Turkishcompanies in infrastructure, tourism and telecommunications fields in Iraq,Abdul-Razzaq said.Political and economic relations between Turkey and Iraq developed highly.Companies help such relations. SILVAN ATTACK-General staff says gendarmery fulfilled its responsibilities with courageand self-sacrifice

ANKARA (A.A) - Turkey's General Staff said on Tuesday thatgendarmery forces fulfilled their responsibilities with full courage andself-sacrifice during a terrorist attack in southeastern Turkey.A General Staff statement said the gendarmery battalion fulfilled theirduties and responsibilities with full courage, endeavor and self-sacrifice withinthe framework of given orders when they were responding to a terrorist attack inSilvan town of the southeastern province of Diyarbakir on July 14."We have concluded an investigation into the attack,"the statement said.PKK terrorists killed 13 Turkish soldiers and wounded 7 others in an ambushin Silvan town on July 14. Turkish Armed Forces said seven terrorists were killedin the clash.The General Staff and Interior Ministry launched separate investigations.The statement said there were hesitations about whether or not thegeographical structure of the area described as temporary base zone was in linewith military tactic principles; whether or not deployment in the area was inline with tactic principles; whether or not sufficient security, surveillance andwarning measures were taken; whether or not additional measures taken after aterrorist attack warning were sufficient; whether or not helicopters were readyon time; whether or not unmanned air vehicles reached the area on time.Therefore, an investigation was launched, the General Staff said.The General Staff said the bodies of five terrorists killed in the clashcould not be found in the area and military authorities thought that terroristswho were escaping took the bodies with them or hid them somewhere in the area."Turkish Armed Forces will fulfil the duties it will be charged with incountering terrorism within the framework of current laws, with an increasingdetermination and belief,"the statement said.(BRC-AY)
