(GEN) TURKISH PREMIER SAYS NO SECRET AGENDA OR INTENTION

ISTANBUL (A.A) - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogansaid Saturday that they did not have any secret agenda or intention.Delivering a speech in the opening of the Institute of Alliance ofCivilizations and Fatih Sultan Mehmet Foundation in Istanbul, Erdogan said thatsome circles claimed that there was an axis shift in the country, stating thatsuch claims were totally wrong."Turkey always defended peace and justice,"hesaid."We have no secret agenda or intention. We are serving peace and justice inthe Middle East, Caucasus, Balkans and other regions. Everyone should know thatwe want peace, tranquility and prosperity in our region,"he said.In regard to Turkey's EU accession process, Erdogan said that they wouldcontinue this process with a great determination.Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned, wife of the emir of Qatar, alsoattended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech.Sheikha Mozah said that Prime Minister Erdogan became the hope of theinternational community in the east and the west.Sheikha Mozah said that she accepted to be included in the Alliance ofCivilizations project due to her full confidence in Premier Erdogan.(EƖ)

ISTANBUL (A.A) - News Agencies of member countries of theEconomic Cooperation Organization, got together Saturday evening at an event heldon the sidelines of the"News Agencies Meeting in the 2010 European Capital ofCulture Istanbul"co-organized by the Anadolu Agency (AA) and Istanbul 2010European Capital of Culture Agency.AA Director General Hilmi Bengi, Head of Azerbaijan's Azertac News AgencyAslan Aslanov, and Iranian News Agency-IRNA's Director General Ali AkbarJavanfekri and other officials attended the assessment meeting of the ECO NewsAgencies-ECONA.Bengi who spoke during the meeting emphasized the importance of attendanceof member news agencies in the ECONA activities.Participants said cooperation among news agencies was crucial for promotionof ECONA activities.AA, IRNA and AZERTAC agreed to step up joint efforts in order to revive theorganization and hold meetings concurrent with meetings of the Organization ofAsia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA).(OZG-EƖ)

ISTANBUL (A.A) - An official from Sudanese News Agency (SUNA)said that the agency was eager to benefit from technical background of AnadoluAgency (AA).Sudanese News Agency Deputy Director General Nimet Abdel Munim had a meetingwith Anadolu Agency (AA) Executive Board Chairman and Director General HilmiBengi in the general assembly meeting of the Organization of Asia-Pacific NewsAgencies (OANA) in Istanbul on Saturday.Munim said that Sudanese Foreign Minister Ali Karti who visited Turkey twomonths ago asked that the agreement which was signed between AA and SUNA in 2006should be revived.Technical and multimedia cooperation between the two news agencies should beboosted in accordance with the agreement, Munim said.Munim said that SUNA needed AA's assistance especially regarding archive andphotographs.AA Director General Bengi said that he was glad that Sudanese FM Kartivisited AA during his visit to Turkey.Bengi said that they were eager to boost cooperation with SUNA, adding thatthe two agencies could exchange reporters mutually.(EƖ)

ISTANBUL (A.A) - Turkish deputy prime minister said on Saturdaythat there was no unity in the justice system in Turkey.Appearing on television program on TV8, State Minister and Deputy PremierBulent Arinc said that there was dualism in the justice system in the country.Arinc said the country had a structure as if the country was being governedby separate civil and military authorities, calling for an end to this dualstructure in the country.He said there were separate military and civil judiciary systems in Turkeynoting that EU countries did not have such a structure.(OZG-EƖ)

ISTANBUL (A.A) - News Agencies of Turkic Speaking Countries gottogether Saturday at an event held on the sidelines of the"News Agencies Meetingin the 2010 European Capital of Culture Istanbul"co-organized by the AnadoluAgency (AA) and Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency and IstanbulMunicipality.The event brought together members of the Association of News Agencies ofTurkic Speaking Countries (TKA) for an assessment meeting.Head of Azerbaijan's Azertac News Agency Aslan Aslanov, who is currentlyassuming the term presidency of TKA, AA Executive Board Chairman and DirectorGeneral Hilmi Bengi, Head of Board of Directors of the Kazakhstan NewsAgency-KAZINFORM Dauren Diyarov, Director of Turkish Cypriot News Agency PerihanAziz, Deputy Director General of Tataristan News Agency Dinar Garipov and AA'sDeputy Director General Tahsin Akti and other officials attended the meeting.The meeting facilitated exchange of views on the current situation of theassociation and the steps to be taken in the future. Members attending themeeting agreed to; hold the TKA's 2011 General Assembly meeting in Kazakhstan,enhance the web portal of the association. IZMIR (A.A) - Somali pirates attempted to hijack a Turkishcargo ship named"M/V August 26"Saturday night as it was sailing in the IndianOcean.Pirates'hijacking attempt failed, when the crew was quick enough to soundthe distress signal and lock themselves in the panick room. The Somali piratesfled the ship upon seeing the arrival of NATO Vessels who came to rescue"M/VAugust 26"upon reading the distress signal."M/V August 26"which belongs to the Nemtas Maritime Services owned byleading Turkish lender Is Bankasi, was carrying wheat from the Black Sea toBangladesh. The ship was attacked by pirates, 200 nautical miles East of theSokotra Island in the Indian Ocean. The crew who noticed the pirates instantlysounded the distress signal and locked themselves up in the panick room which isdesigned to impervious to attacks from outside.As the pirates who climbed to the ship realised they can't take hostages,they fled the ship upon seeing the arrival of the NATO vessels.The crew emerged from the panick room when a U.S. Warship reached theirvessel. Officials said"M/V August 26"would set sail for Bangladesh uponcompletion of legal procedures.(OZG-EƖ)
