IZMIR (A.A) - Somali pirates attempted to hijack a Turkishcargo ship named"M/V August 26"Saturday night as it was sailing in the IndianOcean.Pirates'hijacking attempt failed, when the crew was quick enough to soundthe distress signal and lock themselves in the panick room. The Somali piratesfled the ship upon seeing the arrival of NATO Vessels who came to rescue"M/VAugust 26"upon reading the distress signal."M/V August 26"which belongs to the Nemtas Maritime Services owned byleading Turkish lender Is Bankasi, was carrying wheat from the Black Sea toBangladesh. The ship was attacked by pirates, 200 nautical miles East of theSokotra Island in the Indian Ocean. The crew who noticed the pirates instantlysounded the distress signal and locked themselves up in the panick room which isdesigned to impervious to attacks from outside.As the pirates who climbed to the ship realised they can't take hostages,they fled the ship upon seeing the arrival of the NATO vessels.The crew emerged from the panick room when a U.S. Warship reached theirvessel.
