For those who might to want to settle their accounts with us willhave to wait ten more months for the general elections,"Erdogan told thequarter-million crowd at Istanbul's Kazlicesme square.MAIN OPPOSITION LEADER APOLOGIZES FOR BANNER SCANDALTurkey's main opposition leader has made a public apology for a propagandabanner that likened Turkish women dressed in an Islamic-style headscarf toChristian nuns."Say'yes'if you like Muslim women to dress like nuns,"read thebanner hoisted by a party branch in Istanbul to call voters to say"no"in aSeptember 12 referendum on a government-backed constitutional reform package."Wedo not hesitate to apologize from all those offended if someone had broken theirhearts, on our part,"Kemal Kilicdaroglu, leader of the Republican People'sParty, told a rally in Ankara.CUMHURIYET----------"THE LIST IS NOT ENOUGH"Iraqi State Minister for national security Shirwan al-Waeli, Iraq's topauthority for fight against terrorist organization PKK, said Iraqi government wasnot satisfied with the list of PKK members handed by Turkey for extradition ofterrorists. Iraqi minister said Ankara should give a detailed list which wouldinclude also addresses and codenames of PKK members.Al-Waeli said all of the PKK members on the list were not living in Iraq. Hesaid some of them are in Iran, some in Syria and some in Turkey."If we had fingerprints, we could have controlled these people, at least, onthe border,"he said."ONLY SECULARISM CAN SAVE IRAQ"Iraq is still seeking a government after withdrawal of U.S. troops from thecountry. Turkey's Ambassadar in Baghdad, Murat Ozcelik, talked aboutcontroversies on the future of Iraq and said the only thing that could save thecountry was said to be secularism."For us, the essential thing is formation of a government that could reflectdemocratic choice of the people. We would not stand close to those who are notsupporters of democracy,"Ozcelik said.RADIKAL-------AKP AND CHP SHOW THEIR STRENGTHThe ruling party and the opposition are continuing their referendum campaignand send harsh messages to each other from rallies. Despite rainy weather, around100,000 people attended Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's rally in Istanbul.In the meantime, CHP leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu made appearances in Konya, atraditional stronghold of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party, and thenin capital Ankara.TURKEY ADVANCES TO QUARTER FINAL EASILYTurkish national basketball team, as the host of the FIBA 2010 WorldBasketball Championship, are going on their way without losing any games so far.12 giant men had an easy victory over France: 95-77. Germany's defense minister says the commander of the troubled navy training ship has been relieved of his duties and the vessel ordered to return amid questions surrounding the death of a sailor on board late last year. Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg said the Gorch Fock would remain in port pending the results of an investigation into the death of the 25-year-old sailor who plunged from the ship's rigging in November. Guttenberg told ARD public broadcaster on Saturday Jan. 22, 2011 the ship would not be used for training pending the outcome of an investigation. Guttenberg consistently polls as one of the nation's most popular politicians, but has come under pressure in recent weeks over a series of issues in the military, including the death on the Gorch Fock.
