ANKARA (A.A) - The Turkish lira slightly weakened against theU.S. dollar and Euro on Tuesday. One U.S. dollar traded at 1.5270 and Euro at1.9410 at Istanbul free market.Turkish stock market was up 1.06 percent. The benchmark National-100 indexof the Istanbul Stock Exchange rose 626.66 points since the beginning of the day.The index closed at 59,972.59 points.A total of 259 kilograms of gold was traded at the Istanbul Gold Exchange(IAB). The trading volume was 10.29 million USD in 13 transactions on USD-basis.The Interbank Turkish Lira Reference Interest Rate (TRLIBOR) -- overnightinterest rate -- increased to 6.9900 percent on Tuesday.Turkey's exports rose by 13.4 percent to 64.4 billion U.S. dollarsyear-on-year between January and July 2010. Turkish Statistical Board, TurkStat,released on Tuesday foreign trade figures for July and the period between Januaryand July 2010. In the first seven months of 2010, the country's imports increasedby 32.1 percent to 99.3 billion U.S. dollars over to the same period of 2009.Foreign trade deficit also climbed by 89.4 percent to 34.9 billion U.S. dollarsyear-on-year between January and July 2010.The World Bank Board of Executive Directors have approved issuing a loan of220 million USD (169.2 million euros) to Turkey to be utilized as part of theEnergy Community of South East Europe (ECSEE). According to a written statementissued by the World Bank, the loan will finance a project to be implemented bythe Turkish Electricity Transmission Company (TEIAS). The project to beimplemented by TEIAS will facilitate energy at low costs. The project will alsoprovide clean and high quality energy. The Energy Community (also referred asEnergy Community of South East Europe (ECSEE) and European Energy Community(EEC)) is a community established between the European Union (EU) and a number ofthird countries in order to extend the EU internal energy market to South EastEurope and beyond. Germany's defense minister says the commander of the troubled navy training ship has been relieved of his duties and the vessel ordered to return amid questions surrounding the death of a sailor on board late last year. Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg said the Gorch Fock would remain in port pending the results of an investigation into the death of the 25-year-old sailor who plunged from the ship's rigging in November. Guttenberg told ARD public broadcaster on Saturday Jan. 22, 2011 the ship would not be used for training pending the outcome of an investigation. Guttenberg consistently polls as one of the nation's most popular politicians, but has come under pressure in recent weeks over a series of issues in the military, including the death on the Gorch Fock.
