(CUL) PROMINENT TURKISH PIANIST PERFORMS IN SOUTHERN SPAIN Friday, 28.May.2010, 12:11 (GMT+3) MADRID (A.A) - A world-wide known Turkish pianist gave aconcert in Sevilla, one of the most important cities of Andalusia region ofsouthern Spain.Pianist Gulsin Onay displayed Thursday a performance at Sevilla's historicalCasa de Pilatos for nearly 150 guests including Turkey's ambassador in MadridEren Arat and honorary consul in Andalusia Manuel Moreno.During her performance, Onay played numerous pieces such as Beethoven's"Moonlight Sonata", as well as works of Turkish composer Ahmed Adnan Saygun andPolish composer&virtuoso pianist Chopin.Expressing her appreciation over the Spanish audience's interest to hermusical performance, Onay said she would give several other concerts in Spain innear future.Gulsin Onay started her piano education when she was three and gave herfirst public recital on Turkish Radio when she was only six. With the aid of aspecial state scholarship she studied with Ahmed Adnan Saygun and Mithat Fenmen,and subsequently at the Paris Conservatoire.Onay's international career has spanned over 55 countries across allcontinents, from Venezuela to Japan. She has given concerts in the major musicalcentres of the world such as Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, the Berlin PhilharmonicHall, the Vienna Konzerthaus, London's Queen Elizabeth Hall and Wigmore Hall, theSalle Gaveau in Paris, the Washington DC National Gallery of Art and the New YorkMiller Theater.Onay is acknowledged worldwide as the finest interpreter of the music ofAhmed Adnan Saygun, whose 2nd Piano Concerto was dedicated to her.The pianist holds the title of State Artist in her native Turkey, and in2007, she was honoured with the award of a State Medal by the Polish nation inrecognition of her exceptional Chopin interpretations.(DO-MS)
