(GEN) ISTANBUL SHIPYARD TO MANUFACTURE 5 BOATS FOR ROMANIAN BORDER POLICE Tuesday, 02.Mar.2010, 16:10 (GMT+2) ISTANBUL (A.A) - Istanbul Shipyard will manufacture five riverpatrolling boats for Romanian Border Police.Istanbul Shipyard, active in Tuzla, Istanbul, as a subsidiary of the SNRHolding, said the boats would be delivered within this year.In a written statement the shipyard said it earlier completed themodernization of four SAR boats belonging to the Turkish Coast Guard.The 16.5 meter boats, which will be made up of aluminium, has the capacityto reach 50/kım hour speed.The boats have the capability of fulfilling missions like observation,controlling, intervention and arrest.The boats are equipped with high technology navigators and transceiverdevices as well as various surveillance systems.(AY-CE)

Germany's defense minister says the commander of the troubled navy training ship has been relieved of his duties and the vessel ordered to return amid questions surrounding the death of a sailor on board late last year. Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg said the Gorch Fock would remain in port pending the results of an investigation into the death of the 25-year-old sailor who plunged from the ship's rigging in November. Guttenberg told ARD public broadcaster on Saturday Jan. 22, 2011 the ship would not be used for training pending the outcome of an investigation. Guttenberg consistently polls as one of the nation's most popular politicians, but has come under pressure in recent weeks over a series of issues in the military, including the death on the Gorch Fock.
