According to a statement released by the Turkish Iron and Steel
Producers' Association (DCUD), in June this year Turkey's crude steel
production rose by 12.3 percent year on year reaching 2.82 million mt, while an 11.1 percent decrease was registered on
month-on-month basis. In June, steel production using electric arc
furnaces (EAF) increased by 14.2 percent, while production via blast
furnaces (BFs) rose by 7.3 percent, both compared to June 2010.
On
the other hand, in the first half of 2011, Turkey's crude steel output
amounted to 16.4 million mt, increasing by 21.3 percent as compared to
the corresponding period of last year.
In the first half of this
year, Turkey's steel billet output moved up by 11.6 percent to 11.57
million mt, and its slab output climbed by 53.2 percent to 4.84 million
mt, both on year-on-year basis. Due to the steep increase in the
country's slab output, the share of steel billet in total crude steel
production declined from 76.7 percent to 70.5 percent, while the share
of slab rose by 23.3 percent to 29.5 percent, both compared to H1 2010.
Steel
production using electric arc furnaces (EAF) increased by 29.6 percent
in H1 2011, while production via blast furnaces (BFs) rose only by 2.8
percent, both compared to H1 2010, causing the share of EAFs in total
production ito ncrease to 73.8 percent from 69.1 percent recorded in H1
2010.
