Hong Kong bans German poultry and egg related food
THE import of poultry meat and products, including eggs, from North Rhine-Westphalia state in Germany have been banned in Hong Kong.
The ban follows a notification from the World Organisation for animal health about an H5N2 outbreak in the state.
The government's Centre for Food Safety has contacted German authorities over the issue and said it will closely monitor developments in an official release.
Last year 8,000 tonnes of frozen poultry meat were imported to Hong Kong from Germany, according to government figures.
