Seven Ukrainian crew of a general cargo vessel Nemo declared themselves on a hunger strike in prison in Turkish town Derince, Marmara sea, demanding repatriation to Ukraine, says Ukrainian national newspaper Kyiv Post.
Vessel is in Derince since January last year, being arrested for Estonian owner’s debts, but crew rejected to leave the vessel without being paid in full. Ukrainian media and public are demanding some action from the authorities, namely, Ukrainian Ministry of foreign Affairs. Vessel was put on auction, but no bids came, crew lost any hope and decided to return home, but was arrested by Derince authorities for no apparent reason.
