Initial attempts to tow the "Danio" off the rocks where she grounded on Mar 16 at 4.45 a.m. have failed. The ship remained stuck near the Little Harcar rock and very close to the islands’ lighthouse. The Seahouses Lifeboat assistance was requested at 4.45 a.m. and launched five minutes later. On arrival at the scene, they found the "Danio" firmly aground on rocks in a difficult location. The local Seahouses vessel "Stand Sure" had also gone to the ship’s assistance. The lifeboat failed in its attempt to use a tow line to pull the "Danio" clear. Humber Coastguard have been in regular contact with the vessel’s owners, to arrange recovery of the vessel, probably with the aid of a tug or tugs. The Seahouses lifeboat waa still standing by the vessel. The skipper refused the first offer of a tow from the skipper of the "Stand Sure", but was then persuaded. However, the tide was rising and the vessel has been left high and dry. High tide in the evening passed without any attempt to refloat the vessel, as salvage crews were keen to take their time and prepare a plan. The crew was still on board which meant lifeboat men were also standing close by at sea in case of any emergency. The Seahouses lifeboat crew, which has been on scene for around 14 hours, was expected to be relieved by a crew from Berwick which was to keep watch on the vessel overnight. The "Danio" was carrying timber on its way from Perth, Scotland, to Antwerp when it ran straight into the rocks. During an inspection of the vessel a one-metre hole in bow was found. A meeting will took place in the morning of Mar 17 involving various officials - including the Coastguard, pollution control experts and salvage teams - to work out the best way to move the vessel. The vessel is lying in quite a tricky location and it was estimated to be difficult for the tugs to get in there to try and get the vessel freed.
