General cargo vessel Erol Senkaya sank early in the morning May 19 2012 between the island Zakynthos and mainland, Greece, presumably due to cargo shift. Vessel was loaded with 2200 tons of olive seeds. 6 crew are rescued by Greece Coast Guard boat, 4 crew went missing, search is under way. No pollution reported yet.
Casualties taken to hospital
The vessel capsized and sank in the strait between the island of Zakynthos and the Peloponnese peninsula.
"The ship had a crew of 10 people, according to preliminary information, the citizens of Turkey. Four of them were missing, six were rescued and taken to hospital," the representative of the Greek Coast Guard office said.
The Coast Guard ships, Greek Air Force aircraft, rescue helicopter and passing boats were participating in the rescue operation.
The Coast Guard suggests that the accident occurred due to the displacement of the load. Cargo ship was loaded with fuel from the seeds of olives.
