The ship suffered only minor damage, but the bridge was so badly damaged that it might be out of service for up to six months. When the ship approaches the bridge, the captain remarke that the drawbridge was not opened. He tried to stop, but the ship ran into the construction. The "Ramona" was about to leave the Limfjord, bound for the Kattegat, and the master and the navigational watch of the bridge apparently misunderstood each other. Both the master as a navigational watch has been tested for alcohol, but none of them were affected. Both were questioned by police. A preliminary investigation of the railway bridge showed that the bridge suffered such extensive damage that rail traffic in northern Jutland had to be halted. One of the 300-tons-wings of the bridge was shifted up to one metre. The "Ramona" berthed at an old industry quay west of the bridge after the allision and was detained until surveys have been finished.
