Southerly winds draggged 5 ships ashore in Istanbul

On the night of Oct 18 due to strong SSW wind with a force of 7-8, 5 cargo vessels were dragged ashore in Istanbul.

On the night of Oct 18 due to strong SSW wind with a force of 7-8, 5 cargo vessels were dragged ashore in Istanbul.

Turkish Coastal Safety Adsministration made the following statement:

At Kartal Sand Pier around at 01:00 on 18.10.2011 due to wind force 7-8 SSW direction, and because of heavy seas on the waterfront in Istanbul, KUMDAŞ 2 which was moored at Kartal Kum İskelesi, asked for help immediately by Vessel Traffic Services Center of navigation, life, property and environmental safety ensure the Coast Guard and Rescue 2 and Rescue 3 4 fast rescue bots sent to the scene.

In the meantime upon acknowledgement by VHF contact that ENKO, which wasanchored in same area, dredged anchor and allided with Kumdas 2, later Kumdas 2 notified that she needs no more assistance.

Kartal Anchorage at 03:57 pm the same day the ship which was anchored by M/V Bilgili Biraderler dredged anchor and ran aground. The potential barrier was taken against the environmental pollution around the ship. Noc casualties were reported.

At 05:03 hours the same day at Kartal Anchorage another anchored ship, PEARL dredged anchor and ran aground. Information taken from 2 crew on board landed safely. Strong wind and heavy seas caused the pollution damage caused by the wind and the seas were on the scene after the reduction of sea vehicles to intervene in the environmental equipment has been, the ship was taken around the barrier.No casualties were reported.

At the same time anchored ships TOLGA TOMBA, Alexandretta, EREN TURGUT, BEKİR Hacıbekiroğlu and HUNTER had difficulties due to dredging and tugboats sent to the scene. But later ships reported that they could alter anchorage positions by their own means. "
