The captain of the "Heinrich Ehlers" was immediately sacked after the
collision with the "Stroombank" on June 10 by the ship's owner who was
by chance on board the ship which had no pilot as would have been
required before entering the Kiel-Canal. He had entered the lock without
permission and thus first allided with the quay of the lock and then
ran into the stern of the "Stroombank" which was alreadby berthed in the
lock. The Dutch vessel continued its voyage after the end of
investigations and surveys of dents at the stern in the inner harbour of
Kiel-Holtenau at 8.40 p.m.
