At 1 p.m. on May 17 the "Freja" withdrew, leaving only the "Svitzer Trym" due to the limited maneuverability of the "MSC Opera" which now has Gdynia as destination. Around 3 p.m the tug stopped south of the Landsorts deep, while the "MSC Opera" proceeded southward with 8 knots after 90% of the power have been restored. The ship was in a kind of half-black out status, meaning that half the board is black and they put on a lot of consumers to the board which is powered, i.e. the thrusters, half of the A/C compressors and one pod.
