Steelguru reports that Pakistan Steel Mills would book no loss after the ship MIRACH carrying 25,842 tonnes of iron ore for the mills ran aground off Indian waters.

The Pakistan Steel spokesman said that all imported goods of Pakistan Steel were insured. Therefore authorities at Pakistan Steel have taken up the matter with insurer, the National Insurance Corporation for prompt payment of claim against the damage and hence there was no question of any loss to Pakistan Steel due to the MV Mirach’s accident.

He said that the ship reportedly hit a rock which created a hole in its hull and it ran aground at location 08o 4.9’N, 077o 17.2’E near India in shallow waters due to bad weather.

The spokesman said that the ship was not owned by Comtrack Company of Singapore but it was owned by a Turkish Company.

The Comtrack was just the material provider. The vessel was built in 1982 and was capable of carrying over 27,000 tonnes cargo and no ship could operate unless it was seaworthy and insured.
