the 55 metre freighter Vinga's bow after the collision.
Two fishermen, a father and a son, are dead of hypothermia after their boat collided with a cargo ship last night in the waters between Jutland and Zealand.
The two men, aged 72 and 43, remained in the water for 55 and 95 minutes before being pulled aboard rescuing ships.
Upon arrival at the hospital, it became clear that the men’s lives could not be saved after their long stay in the water outside of the Jutland town of Djursland, where the water temperature was only one degree.
After the rescue efforts were completed, the 55-metre Swedish ship ‘Vinga’ that hit the fishermen’s boat continued to the eastern Zealand port of Korsør, where a maritime inquiry is currently under way.
The Vinga’s crew managed to pull one of the men out of the water after 55 minutes.
The other man was recovered by rescue services some 40 minutes later.
The men’s 13-metre long boat sank.
The two were transported by helicopter to hospitals in Copenhagen and Aalborg.
