THE 4,544-TEU Maersk Garonne ran aground in Fremantle harbour in Western Australia after becoming stuck on a sandbank 500 metres off South Mole, said Fremantle Ports.
There were no injuries and no damage to the ship. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority will conduct a full inquiry.
The incident happened at 5am local time on Saturday, February 28 and three and a half hours later tug boats were able to free the vessel. The ship was moved to the anchorage at Gage Roads, reported American Shipper.
The 11 ships were in the joint Asia-Australia Boomerang service offered by Maersk Line, its subsidiary line Safmarine and Mediterranean Shipping Co.
Hamburg Sud and its subsidiary Alianca purchase slots on the loop, along with G6 Alliance members APL, Hapag-Lloyd and Hyundai Merchant Marine.
The port rotation is: Tanjung Pelepas, Singapore, Fremantle, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Yokohama, Osaka, Busan, Qingdao, Shanghai, Ningbo, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Fremantle and back to Tanjung Pelepas.
