THE 4,600-TEU MOL Express, which ran aground near Tateyama (pop 48,775) half way up the south side of Honshu, Japan's main island, has been refloated, its owner Seaspan Corporation announced.
The company said it is grateful there were no crew injuries and no environmental consequences. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway.
The vessel is currently on charter to MOL, is managed by Seaspan Corporation, and is owned by its affiliate GCI.
Seaspan offers long-term leases of containerships with a managed fleet 109 vessels totalling 840,000 TEU, including 27 newbuildings on order, scheduled for delivery by the end of 2016.
