Crews from the Coast Guard Cutters "Munro", with an embarked MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew, and "Alex Haley" were combing the Bering Sea.
The search included two cutters, two helicopters and multiple HC-130 Hercules airplanes. P 3 Orion airplanes of the Republic of Korea arrived in Anchorage to take over maritime patrol aircraft responsibilities in the search. The South Korean aircraft began search operations on Dec 8 flying out of Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson. As of Dec. 7, 2014, Coast Guard air and surface assets completed 22 searches, covering 6,000 square miles. The Russian ship carrying six survivors and 21 victims of the sinking was heading to South Korea eight days after the accident. It was being expected to arrive in Busan on Dec. 20.
