The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) reported Sunday that it received a report that a Singapore-registered semisubmersible barge POSH Mogami - a vessel owned by Singapore's offshore marine services provider PACC Offshore Services Holdings Ltd. (POSH) - sank 2 nautical miles northeast of Sekupang, Batam, Indonesia on Friday (July 18) night.
Nine persons were on board the barge when the incident happened. POSH Mogami, a 30,500 dead weight ton (dwt) ABS-classed vessel, was carrying out submerging trials at the time of the incident. The Indonesian authorities have since rescued 6 persons (2 Singaporeans, 1 Malaysian, 1 Dutch, 1 Filipino, 1 Indonesian) and recovered 3 bodies (1 Singaporean, 1 Chinese, 1 Myanmar national).
The Jakarta Post reported that the three crew members were died were Chew Zhi Wei Terence, 31, from Singapore; Ye Myint Myat, 33, from Myanmar; and Zhejiang, 28, from China.
"As the Flag Administration of POSH Mogami, MPA is investigating the cause of the incident with the relevant authorities," the Singapore government agency said in a press release.
