Major fire in Scheveningen
Two people were injured in the morning of June 23, 2014, in a major fire aboard the "Johanna Maria - SCH 118" in the port of Scheveningen.
One of them was taken to a hospital because he had inhaled smoke, the other had suffered burns. The fire broke out during grinding work at a pipe and soon spread.
All crew were accounted for. The fire department startedto fight the fire from the dock with boats of the KNRM assisting at starboard side.
The police recommended to close windows and doors in the area of the Staten Quarter in Den Haag due to the dense smoke development.
The smoke plume could be seen from far around. The fire rescue meanwhile got assistance from the fire boat "RPA 15" from Rotterdam. Also ambulances, the KNRM and the police were on scene.
