According to the UK’s Maritime & Coastguard Agency, the Barbados-flagged vessel alerted Stornoway Coastguard by VHF on Saturday (10:30 local time) that it was in difficulties.
Carol Collins, Stornoway Coastguard Watch Manager said: “The weather on scene is a concern with gale force winds and high sea. The lifeboats will standby in case the crew need to be taken off. We are working with our Counter Pollution officers to source a tug for the vessel”.
Stornoway Coastguard located the stricken vessel and requested the Barra RNLI and Tobermory RNLI lifeboats to assist troubled freighter.
Tobermory RNLI Coxswain Andrew McHaffie said: “This was a long shout in difficult conditions with seas of up to ten metres at times.”
Latest RNLI reports show that the 3,632-dwt vessel is drifting in a north westerly direction and is not in danger of encountering any hazards at present.
The tug boat is expected to reach Wilson Gdynia today.
