Bulkcarriers in collision off Phuket
The bulkcarrier "Anton Topic" collided with the "CN Jumbos" near Ko Rin island off the Phuket coast on Mar 30, 2014, at 10.12 p.m. Nobody was injured.
The collision which occurred 12,6 miles southwest of the Balihai peninsula in Phuket.
The Sriracha Vessel Traffic Control Service Center in Sriracha alerted the First Navy Region which dispatched a patrol boat and special action force team to the scene. The Harbor Department chief ordered the oil disposal vessel "Den Suthi" to the area as a precaution.
The "CN Jumbo" which had a crew of 23 on board suffered water ingress in the double bottom tank and was taking in water of 20 centimeters per hour. The vessel was listing five degrees to the right but was so far stable, so that the master not seek external assistance. The "CN Jumbos" anchored in the Kho Rin island area. The "Den Suthi" did not observe an oil leakage from the damaged bulk carrier.
The "Anton Topic" suffered damage to the port side bow, but no water ingress and was advised to anchor behind the Laem Chabang port’s seawall pending investigation of the collision. On Apr 1 at 3.30 a.m. the "Anton Topic" was anchored on Laem Chabang roads. At the time of collision both vessels had been leaving Laem Chabang and Ko Sichang roads after having completed cargo operation. The "CN Jumbos" next port of call should have been Anggrek. The "Anton Topic" had been destined to Myeg Pasir Gudang port.
