The bodies were taken to the port of Vigo. The area has been cordoned off and access was limited to the relatives and authorities, including the Regional Minister of Facenda. The remains of the deceased were later taken to the Hospital Nicolás Peña for an autopsy.
The rescue forces kept on looking for the two missing men, one Ghanaian and one Galician apparently from Marin.
The "Salvamar Mirach", the helicopter Helimer 203, the "Pesca 1" and "Xunta de Galicia" were involved in the SAR operation as well as ships of the Civil Guard, the tugs "María Pita", "Serra Barbantes", "Ría de Vigo" a.o. The search effort was being coordinated by the Maritime Rescue Centre in Vigo. About 8.15 the search operation focused on an area between Monteferro and Barra in Aldan , Cangas.
The wreck was located at a depth of more than 50 meters off Monteferro. The "Baltic Breeze" was coming from Gibraltar in order to load Citroën vehicles manufactured in Vigo at the time of the accident.
The ship has been anchored in the middle of the river until it was allowed to move to the Bouzas terminal in the port of Vigo at 10.30 a.m. The accident seems to have been caused by a navigational error. The “Baltic Breeze” was within the fairway when the “Mar de Marin” veered to port and was hit.
