Two ships carrying iron ore sank in rough waters in the Black Sea on Sunday, and four crew members from one of the ships were missing, news reports said.
The Turkish freighter Kalkavan went down about a mile from the Turkish port city of Sinop. Its eight crew members were rescued by a nearby vessel. No iron spill was reported.
Kalkavan was enroute to Samsun with iron ore laden from Eregli port in the Black Sea coast of Turkey.
Hours later, the Cambodian-flagged the Lady Amar sank a few miles away. A Russian ship rescued 14 of its 18 crew members, TGRT television reported. Rescue workers were searching for four missing sailors.
The Lady Amar was headed from Romania to Algeria. The Kalkavan's route was not immediately known.
Several other ships were reportedly having troubles navigating rough waters in the Black Sea and the Aegean Sea.
Russian ship rescued the crew of Lady Amar
The crew of the Russian ship rescues seamen from the Cambodian cargo vessel Lady Amar which sank on Sunday in a stormy weather 40 miles away from the Turkish coast.
RIA Novosti reports that Russian seamen have already rescued 14 crew members of the Cambodian vessel which transported 11,000 tons of steel.
But four members of the crew are still missing.
The authorities of Istanbul, who also reacted to the SOS,
sent a helicopter and a rescue ship.
But poor visibility did not allow them to discover the Cambodian dry cargo vessel.
Lady Amar sank on 17:30 LMT
Latest reports say that Lady Amar sunk at 17:30 Local time. Total 17 of her 18-member crew have been rescued. One crewmember is missing according to the latest reports.
