AMERICAN Airlines Cargo has set up base at a new 53,000-square foot warehouse operated by handler Worldwide Flight Services' (WFS) at Milan's Malpensa Airport (MXP), from where the airline's daily flights to New York (JFK) and Miami (MIA) will be handled.
The airline explained the move by saying that customers have increasingly been demanding direct services out of Italy to the US in response to growing cargo volumes from the northern Italian city, London's Air Cargo News reported.
Last month WFS opened the MXP cargo facility, with contracts from China Cargo Airlines and American Airlines Cargo already under its belt.
The Milan airport manages 54 per cent of Italy's air cargo traffic and hosts 115 all-cargo flights per week. Some of the most frequently shipped goods from Milan include automotive parts, fashion and pharmaceuticals.
