Grounding on St. Lawrence River
The "Algoma Spirit" ran aground on May 16, 2015, at 2.15 p.m. at the south side of Cornwall Island on the St. Lawrence River, about a mile below the international bridge.
The ship which had been enroute from Port Colborne to Port Cartier had suffered a power loss and a blackout.
Ship traffic in the area was stopped. At 3.30 a.m. on May 18 the two tugs "Ocean Pierre Julien" and "Ocean Ross Gaudrault" were on scene.
The bulker was stuck with the bow, while the stern was afloat.
